General Information for
Hunters Visiting New Zealand
Travel:
New Zealand is serviced by four international airports, Auckland International Airport
(AKL) and Christchurch International Airport (CHC) being the busiest.
Entry visas are not required if you are a citizen of the USA, Canada, UK or other
countries that have a visa waiver agreement with New Zealand. You must have a valid
passport. Please ask for current information from your travel agent.
Travel insurance is recommended. Ask your travel agent about medical and trip
cancellation insurance.
Travel within New Zealand is by 4x4, van, helicopter or air. Flights from Auckland to
Christchurch are not arranged by your outfitter, but we can advise. All other travel will
be arranged.
Firearms:
For the most part, sporting rifles can be brought into New Zealand with little problem.
However, with ever increasing security measures we suggest to use our rifles so as to
reduce the hassle of travelling internationally with firearms.
If you wish to bring your own rifle(s), Firearms Licenses and Import Permits are
available at the international airport when you arrive in New Zealand. Handguns
and military style firearms cannot be imported for the purposes of hunting. There
is a small fee for your Firearms License and Permit. Please let us know and we will advise
you of required documents prior to your arrival.
Weather:
Weather in New Zealand is variable and cool weather can be expected from May to August.
Always be prepared for rain and snow at higher elevations during our winter months. Your
outfitter will advise on any additional requirements.
Taxidermy:
We have connections with New Zealand's top taxidermists and can advise you during your
trip.
